National Good Neighbor Day is Saturday, September 28th

National Good Neighbor Day was first proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. He hoped to raise public awareness that good neighbors help achieve human understanding and build strong, thriving communities. We couldn’t agree more. We’ve watched Sterling Ranch residents become not only good neighbors, but also the best of friends.

Driven by our vision to create a community where joy resides, we’re on a mission to make every day a good neighbor day. We are inspired by President Carter’s intention and are thrilled to celebrate this long-standing holiday this month. We’re setting the tone for the rest of the year — a tone which fosters connection, respect, and friendship throughout our amazing community.

Help us celebrate all week by finding ways to engage in our incredible community and practice your good neighbor skills! Here’s some inspiration to get you started.

1. Meet your neighbor

A good ol’ fashioned banana bread offering can go a long way. Spend an afternoon baking with your family and friends. Then, knock on a door and share the love!

2. Organize a morning workout

You can use an app such as Next Door or MeetUp or simply flyer the neighborhood to get the word out. Head to a local yoga studio, run a nearby path, or even organize a bike ride around Roxborough State Park. This is a great way to meet new people and share your love of fitness with them.

3. Offer to host a playdate for a few kiddos

If you have children, take initiative and host a playdate for a few neighborhood kiddos of a similar age. A scavenger hunt, a movie night, or a dinner followed by board games… parents in the neighborhood will be thankful for some time off and are sure to return the favor.

4. Take the dogs to the Chatfield Reservoir Dog Park

Host a meet up for the dogs! There’s nothing better than bonding with a few strangers over your love of animals. Spend time with your neighbors and their four legged friends while getting outdoors. Then, grab a coffee with your new friends once the pups are all tuckered out.

5. Volunteer at a local school

The school year is in full swing and there are plenty of fundraisers to help out with. Getting involved with something new is a great way to lift your spirits, meet new people, and become more in the know when it comes to all things education in your neck of the woods.

6. Pay it forward at the local coffee shop or tap room

Next time you’re at Atlas Coffee in Sterling Center, buy the person behind you their beverage of choice. It will undoubtedly make their day. Or, if you’re relaxing with a beer one evening at Grist Brewing Company, buy a round of drinks for a table nearby.

Whether, you’re making someone happy before they’ve had their morning java or offering a friendly drink to a table of strangers, your acts of kindness won’t go unnoticed. You may even inspire others to do the same.

7. Attend the National Good Neighbor Day Celebration at Sterling Center

Get cozy with your neighbors at a local celebration! On Saturday, September 28th from 10am-12pm, our community is hosting a Brunch Potluck in the Sterling Center! Our friends at Atlas Coffee will be available to serve up delicious coffees and teas at the event. Bring something yummy to share with the group.

You can also enter the Sterling Ranch community coloring contest – color a picture, turn it in at the event, and be entered in a raffle to win 2 free tickets to the Pumpkin Festival at Chatfield Farms. We can’t wait to see you there! Register here »
