Sterling Ranch warmly welcomes a hero to the community. In 2011, Colorado veteran Marine Corporal Ryan Garza was serving his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan when his truck was hit by an IED. Sustaining serious injuries, including the loss of his leg, Cpl. Garza began a long journey to recovery.
Twelve years later to the day, and grinning ear to ear, he moved into his brand new home which was custom built to his needs. Decked out with a wide range of accessibility features, stylish furniture, artistic decor, and a stunning view of the mountains, his home is also completely free. Shaking his head and still grinning, he told Channel 4 CBS News, “I’m going to start a fresh new life. I get to start over.”
His home is part of a nationwide initiative of Helping a Hero, in partnership with Sterling Ranch, Lennar Homes, and Bass Pro Shops. Sterling Ranch President Brock Smethills is proud to welcome Cpl. Garza to the neighborhood. He told the Denver Gazette, “What makes a community is having heroes in it,” adding that, “having a hero of that caliber here is an honor.”
Sterling Ranch is proud to welcome Cpl. Garza to the community. We are so thankful and for his sacrifice. His Sterling Ranch homecoming was attended by friends, family, neighbors, and local leaders. For more news coverage, check out FOX-31, ABC-7, and the Denver Gazette.
