Have you ever been on the receiving end of a small, anonymous gesture that changed the trajectory of your day — that brought you joy? That’s the idea behind the Pay It Forward movement, a philosophy that centers on random acts of kindness, specifically for strangers.

We wish to inspire this kindness in the Sterling Ranch community and invite you to participate in our Pay It Forward challenge. Whether you’re already a resident or are in the market for a new home in Denver Metro’s top-selling community, we hope you’ll join us cultivating this spirit of community involvement.

9 ideas to pay it forward

At Sterling Ranch, we value gratitude. We believe doing good and giving back should be part of the everyday culture in a community. We also believe that small gestures can make a big difference, and we invite you to join in the challenge, wherever you live. Here are some ideas to get you started:

    Deliver food

Imagine the delight of finding a plate of delicious homemade brownies on your doorstep. Or the surprise you’d experience at discovering an oven-ready lasagna, complete with a thoughtful ingredient list. How did someone know you needed that extra pick-me-up, that relief from making dinner? They didn’t — that’s the beauty of the pay it forward philosophy; the truth is, we can all use help sometimes.

    Lend a helping hand

When the snowflakes start falling, plan to spend a little extra time outside shoveling the driveway and clear a neighbor’s driveway or sidewalk as well. Haven’t met the new family on your street yet? Theirs is the best driveway to choose. (Tip: Do the neighbor’s driveway first so the intention doesn’t escape you if tiredness sets in.)

    Treat a fellow patron

Next time you’re visiting the Sterling Center for Trivia Night, pick up the tab for the Grist Brewing patron behind you. Another idea? Purchase an Atlas Coffees gift card to leave at a stranger’s front door.

    Offer a handwritten thank-you

When was the last time you received a handwritten note? Chances are it’s been a while. Take a few minutes to express your gratitude for someone in the community who has made a positive difference in your experience living here. This idea is great for mail carriers, delivery drivers and law enforcement too.

    Write a review

Do you have the best hairstyle you’ve ever had because of Crissy at The Cut on Location or enjoy out-of-this-world barbeque — food truck style — every Thursday from Woodhill Small Batch BBQ? Let others know about it with a positive review! Reviews help future customers and hardworking business owners alike — and they don’t cost you a thing.

    Give blood

One of the most overlooked ways to pay it forward is to give blood. We’ve all got it, and every day someone needs it. Help save a life! Mark your calendar to join us at the Community Blood Drive on December 20th at the Overlook Clubhouse.

    Shower with flowers

Next time you’re at the grocery store, pick up a bouquet of flowers to drop on an unsuspecting neighbor’s doorstep. Choose a home in another village than yours. Want to go the extra mile? Set up a delivery with Bloom Bar for a truly spectacular arrangement.

    Hand out compliments

A positive word can make all the difference in a person’s day. Set a goal to offer a compliment or words of encouragement to at least three people you encounter throughout the day.

    Show your pride

Sterling Ranch is a beautiful community. Show your pride in helping to keep it that way! Set aside some time to pop down to the nearest pocket park or trail and collect any litter that’s escaped a trash can. This is a perfect activity to get the whole family involved.

Sterling Ranch: A new experience of joy

Sterling Ranch is a unique, resident-centric community — it always has been, and through efforts such as the Pay It Forward challenge, we hope it always will be. We’re blessed to live in a beautiful, convenient location in a community where neighbors become friends, where joy is a part of everyday life.
