    Sometimes all it takes to reach optimal wellness is awareness, followed by action. Over the course of a week, how many of the following activities can you incorporate into your daily routine?

    Focus on the positive

    Life is lighter when you possess a positive attitude. By focusing on the positive aspects of your life and practicing gratitude, your mental health will soar. Be intentional with your thoughts and words, offer a smile, give a compliment, accept a compliment and count your blessings.

    Meditate

    Meditation is more than sitting in silence with your eyes closed. It’s about quieting the mind. This empowering practice offers tremendous benefits for wellness and deserves a spot in your daily routine. So get comfortable, take a deep breath, and let your mind empty . . . a few minutes is all it takes. 

    Spend time with animals

    From watching cattle peacefully graze in the fields to snuggling up with your favorite four-legged pet for movie time, there’s something special about animals. They are great companions for the fun times and a calming presence for the tough times. Friday, June 25, is National Take Your Dog to Work Day, so whether you work from home or head into the office, take this opportunity to spend some extra time with Fido.

    Connect with nature

    Experts agree that spending time in nature benefits one’s wellness. With the great outdoors at our doorstep, there’s always an opportunity to connect with nature and reap wonderful benefits such as boosted moods and lower stress. What are you waiting for? Strap on your sandals and get outside!

    Create a playlist to match the rhythm of your day and explore the power of music to energize or calm your mood. Need to focus? Consider some classical tunes. Going for a run? Download a sweet beat before heading out on the trails
