At Sterling Ranch, we are blessed to have families come from places near and far to settle here and live out their most extraordinary lives. Many of our residents are inspired by the values upon which this place was built. With these values in mind, they create meaningful relationships with each other and help our community thrive. The Nilsson family is no exception.
Here’s a little bit about the Nilssons, their journey and their connection to some of Sterling Ranch’s most precious values — family and community.
Meet the Nilssons
When you meet Rayma and Mark you feel instantly at ease because of their genuine, radiating warmth. Colorado natives, the couple raised their three children in Littleton, Colorado. Upon becoming empty nesters, they wanted to be closer to the beauty of the foothills.
After learning about Sterling Ranch, the Nilssons couldn’t wait to check it out. Sure enough, it was love at first sight. The community is close to everything they like to do (biking, running and taking walks), offers walkable amenities, features state-of-the-art technology to keep them connected and, of course, has incredible views. The couple fell in love with a charming Parkwood home and soon became proud Sterling Ranch residents.
What makes this place even more special for the Nilssons is that two of their daughters decided to make Sterling Ranch home too. “We are a close-knit family and we love living so close to one another,” Rayma explains. “I can’t even describe how awesome it is to have our daughters living in Sterling Ranch!” The family rotates Friday night dinners at each other’s homes.
Fortunately for the Nilssons, family time stretches far beyond Fridays. Rayma boasts, “Our first grandson was born the weekend that our daughter and son-in-law moved here. We are so blessed to be able to see him every day. Our other daughter and son-in-law also live about 5 minutes from our home, so we get to see them quite often as well.” It’s clear — for the Nilssons, family means everything and is certainly their number-one priority.
Life is sweet in Sterling Ranch for the Nilssons. During the week, Mark works from home. Rayma, a retired school principal, enjoys watching her grandson, having lunch with her husband on their porch and visiting with her neighbors as they pass by on their walks.
What do their weekends look like? They look a lot like heaven: the couple is often seen sipping morning brew from Atlas Coffee and going for an afternoon bike ride around Chatfield Reservoir. “We love exploring the trails together,” says Rayma.
The Nilssons love rounding out their days with the many fun neighborhood events put on by our Community Lifestyle Director, Kate Kunzie. “Kate does a great job coordinating the community events, which we try to attend as much as possible,” Rayma says. “We have met so many people at these events. We love the small-town feel here and especially like to walk the neighborhood and see people outside getting to know one another. Right now, more than anytime in recent memory, is a good time for all of us to come together and look out for one another. We feel like that’s what this community offers us.
