Honoring Our Precious Land

The earth is what we all have in common

At Sterling Ranch, we intend to honor the land on which we are building by leaving the smallest footprint possible and living in harmony with nature. Since the very early design phases, we’ve worked closely with environmental experts, including the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and ERO (Consultants in Natural Resources and the Environment), to develop an integrated, long-term prairie conservation management plan that protects wildlife. The result? Two wildlife corridors have been thoughtfully and carefully preserved so that migrating animals don’t have to change their movements as they meander through the community.

What’s underground matters

This area has a rich history, and we are committed to preserving archeological items we may encounter as we build. When breaking ground to accommodate new growth, we follow protocols — developed in conjunction with Nathan Boyles, president of Metcalf Archeological Consultants, Inc, and Lamb Spring Archeological Preserve — to manage any culturally significant discoveries we unearth. In fact, our protocols are so special, that we were awarded American Cultural Resource Association’s (ACRA) prestigious National Industry Award for our farsighted planning and protocols. Historically, it was the first time this award went to a private sector company and the first time it went to a developer.

Nurturing our ecosystem

We’ve protected significant ecosystem landmarks by preserving them as open spaces. These spaces hearken to the very heart of our vision for Sterling Ranch, and they are places every resident can enjoy and feel good about. We also comply with the International Dark Sky Initiative and its guidelines in order to protect the night skies from light pollution and preserve the natural patterns of nocturnal birds, mammals, and insects.

“As you develop the land, you use it in a way that is sustainable and will last. It’s your mark on that land, and it’s the heritage that you leave for the next generation. It’s our privilege and responsibility to preserve the land and be as intentional as possible about our impact on it.”
