Roxborough community residents have long voiced concerns over the fact that the current road system was inadequate to accommodate the rapid population and job growth that is occurring in the region. As part of the extensive forecasting that has gone into the planning and development of the Sterling Ranch Community, there was an anticipated need for improvements in the roadways and infrastructure in Chatfield Valley.
The Sterling Ranch Community Authority Board has stepped up to provide the funding and support needed by Douglas County in order to extend Waterton Road from Rampart Range Road to Moore Road, and offering a connection to the Southern Connector from Moore Road to Santa Fe. The project will be completed within a three-year time frame in order to keep pace with the growing Sterling Ranch community.
The new roads will benefit not only the residents of Sterling Ranch, but also the surrounding areas in the Chatfield Valley. The vision for Sterling Ranch has always been to create a sustainable community where natural resources are preserved, enhanced, and responsibly stewarded. In response to concerns about the strain on current infrastructure a new community would bring, Sterling Ranch promised to work with Douglas County to provide—and fund—a solution.
“We applaud Sterling Ranch for leading the effort and partnering with Douglas County to build the Waterton Extension for everyone’s benefit and for being the catalyst in solving so many of the regional issues such as water and transportation that have existed in the Chatfield Valley for many years,” said Amy Sherman, CEO of the Northwest Douglas County Economic Development Corporation.
Harold Smethills of Sterling Ranch Development said, “We’re looking forward to providing a solution that has been on the Douglas County Master Plan for many years but without the funding or partner to solve it.”
